The Saccharomyces boulardii strain has several different types of action mechanisms that can be classified into three main areas: luminal action, trophic action and signalling effects (mucosal anti-inflammatory). Saccharomyces boulardii has no effect on the normal microbiota in healthy humans, however, in people with loose stools, the normal microbiota is quickly restored. It is very useful in cases of acute stool, traveller’s stool (TSD) or antibiotic-associated stool (AAS) in adults and children.
