Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a perennial herbaceous plant, very fragrant, belonging to the Labiatae family.

Originating in Turkey, it has spread to all countries in the Mediterranean basin and central and eastern Europe.

Its smell is similar to that of lemon and for this reason it is also called limoncella.

Lemon balm is recommended as a mild sedative, in sleep disorders and in the attenuation of nervous symptoms such as excitability, anxiety and stress, thanks to the presence of rosmarinic acid.
