Thorne Research Curcumin Phytosome

Thorne Research Curcumin Phytosome is a curcumin supplement made from turmeric (Curcuma longa) bound to sunflower-derived phospholipids. It used to be sold as Thorne Research Meriva 550-SF, so if you bought that older bottle, this is the same line under a new name. The phytosome format is the whole point here: plain curcumin is notoriously hard for the body to take up, and pairing it with phospholipids is meant to help more of it actually get absorbed.

Why people choose a curcumin phytosome

Curcumin is the pigment that gives turmeric its yellow color, and it is one of the more studied plant compounds for everyday wellness. The catch is absorption. Taken on its own, much of it passes through without doing much. Thorne uses a phytosome (the Meriva form) that wraps curcumin with phospholipids, which is designed to improve how the body takes it in. That is the practical reason to reach for this version instead of a basic turmeric capsule.

  • Supports joint comfort and flexibility for an active routine*
  • Helps support muscle recovery after exercise*
  • Provides antioxidant support*
  • Made with a highly absorbable phytosome form of curcumin*

How to work it into your day

The capsules are easy to take and can go down with or without food, which makes them simple to slot into a morning or evening routine. Many people split the dose across the day. If you train or stay on your feet a lot, taking it consistently tends to matter more than the time of day you take it. One honest note: curcumin is not a quick fix, and you should not expect to feel something the first afternoon. Give it a steady run before you judge it.

What is in it, and what is not

Each capsule centers on curcumin phytosome, with leucine, calcium citrate, and calcium laurate rounding out the formula. The capsule itself is hypromellose, which is plant based rather than gelatin. Per the label, it is dairy free, gluten free, and soy free even though the phospholipids come from sunflower. If you are pregnant, nursing, on medication, or managing a health condition, talk with your healthcare provider before starting, since curcumin can interact with certain prescription drugs.
