Black currant oil is a natural source of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. Linolenic acid (LA) accounts for approximately 12% of fatty acids in the skin, and helps to maintain the integrity of the epidermal barrier. EFAs help maintain moisture in the eyes and skin, and omega-6 supplementation may play a role in mediating collagen production in the skin. In a recent study of 40 healthy adults, supplementation with 2 g of blackcurrant seed oil for three months supported skin health and moisture levels in forearm and cheek skin.
